Wind Turbine Project
Berwick Community Trust, in partnership with Community Renewable Energy Ltd (CoRE), is working to develop a single community owned wind turbine on a site located between the A1 and the main railway line and close to the north of the Ramparts Business Park

Detailed studies of the areas archaeology, hydrology and geology are now being prepared and together with bird migration data and surveys of the natural environment and visual impact of the turbine they will be used to form an Environmental Impact Assessment.
Revenue from the turbine will be split between CoRE and the Trust in order to support the development of other community owned renewable energy projects and for the benefit of Berwick and residents. At today’s prices the income to the Trust will amount, before tax, to approximately £4m over the lifetime of the project and this money will be used for the benefit of the town
A new joint venture company, Berwick Core Ltd, has been formed to carry the project forward and the Trust is optimistic that subject to necessary consents a turbine can be operational in 2010. A met mast is currently measuring wind speed at the site and the first six months of data indicate higher than expected wind speeds which are suitable for a 50m high 800kW turbine |
